3 Oct. 2026: Kadant Solutions, a division of Kadant Inc. (NYSE: KAI), announced the launch of the nPak C+R, a nanotechnology-enhanced, extended-life doctor blade engineered for papermaking applications with significant roll contaminant removal challenges.
The nPak C+R doctor blade is designed for applications such as paper machine press rolls, high-temperature calender rolls requiring extended wear life, and heavily contaminated dryer applications. Its nanotechnology-enhanced toughened resin helps preserve the blade's cleaning edge, resulting in fewer blade changes, improved machine runnability, enhanced roll cleanliness, and lower operating costs. The addition of stickie-resistant surface layers further helps prevent contaminants from accumulating on or around the blade.
“The nPak C+R doctor blade is the newest offering in our nanotechnology-enhanced doctor blade family. The unique high-tech synthetic fiber construction provides the highest wear and stickie-resistance for some of the most demanding roll cleaning applications in the industry,” said Chad Thomack, director of sales for Kadant Solutions. “By maintaining the leading edge geometry longer and resisting contaminant buildup, the blade delivers more consistent cleaning performance while reducing maintenance requirements and operating costs for our customers.”
Field results have demonstrated the blade's increased service life and improved wear uniformity compared to conventional carbon blades. In one containerboard mill application, the nPak C+R doctor blade reduced stickies buildup behind the blade tip, improved sheet quality, and delivered cost savings through extended blade life.
