8 Sept. 2026: DS Smith has confirmed its plan to close a large box plant at Launceston in Cornwall, which will lead to 165 job losses. Production is due to cease in November. The site is said to process about 28,000 tonnes of paper annually.

The site has been a significant local employer for almost 60 years, having been opened by Tillotson's in 1968, then transferred to St Regis before becoming part of DS Smith in 1986.

This is the latest DS Smith converting site to close, after Plymouth, Derbyshire, Newcastle, Sheerness, and Wellingborough went in 2025.

The future of the site, after closure, still has not been decided.
