11 Aug. 2026: Lenzing, the Austrian manufacturer of regenerated cellulose fibres, has announced a strategic restructuring plan which will see it withdraw from low value-added areas and reposition to higher value-added sectors, effectively “Grow Nonwovens, Reset Textiles”.

As a result, the company plans to close the Heiligenkreuz site (Austria) by the end of 2026 and at its Grimsby site (United Kingdom) by the end of 2027.

The Grimsby site was built in1998 by Courtaulds Fibres, and acquired by Lenzing in 2004. It is recognised as the birthplace of TencelTM lyocell fibre production, capacity 45,000tpy.

The Heiligenkreuz site dates from 1997, and is equipped with three production lines and two power plants, produces over 80,000 tons of sustainable lyocell fibres annually.

Together, these are two of the smaller Lyocell-manufacturing plants in Europe. The company has many other, larger plants, throughout Europe, Americas and Asia.
