13 Apr. 2026: Bury-based Maker Industrial, part of chemical manufacturer The Rakem Group, has been awarded EcoVadis Gold for being in the top 5% of businesses globally for environmentally sustainability and social performance.
Specialising in liquid and powder contract manufacturing for industries including DIY, coatings, inks, paper, plastics and construction, Maker is ranked in the 98th percentile for environmental, social and governance performance (ESG).
Assessed across four key areas – environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement, Maker achieved an overall score of 83/100 with environmental performance scoring an impressive 92/100.
Philippa Glover, managing director, The Rakem Group, said SME’s make a large majority of all businesses but less than 10% hold formal sustainability certifications.
“As an SME operating in a sector often dominated by larger players, it’s especially rewarding to be ranked among the top 2% of businesses worldwide for our sustainability performance. SMEs are increasingly recognised as key drivers of innovation and sustainability across UK manufacturing and structured benchmarking is critical to scaling impact and building resilience.”
