23 Mar. 2026: Valmet plans to restructure its manufacturing footprint in Sweden and Poland and has initiated change negotiations within its Global Supply unit regarding the potential closure of manufacturing operations at its Sundsvall site in Sweden. In parallel, negotiations have also been launched concerning proposed operational changes at the company’s facilities in Gothenburg, Sweden, and Jelenia Góra, Poland.
The planned measures are intended to strengthen the long-term competitiveness of Valmet’s Biomaterial Solutions and Services segment and to improve the efficiency of its global manufacturing network, in line with the company’s “Lead the Way” strategy. In a context of continued uncertainty in the global economy, which is affecting customer decision-making, Valmet is assessing actions to better adapt to current market conditions.
The plans may impact up to 170 positions in Sundsvall, up to 55 positions in Gothenburg, and up to 130 positions in Jelenia Góra.
Through its Global Supply unit, Valmet aims to enhance global competitiveness and has set a target of achieving EUR 100 million in cost efficiencies by 2030, driven by improvements in procurement, logistics, and production optimization. The proposed actions in Sweden and Poland represent key measures related to the optimization of the company’s industrial footprint.
If implemented, the planned changes are expected to generate annual net cost savings of approximately EUR 20 million, with the full run-rate anticipated to be reached by early 2027.
The potential closure of the Sundsvall manufacturing site, along with the proposed changes in Gothenburg and Jelenia Góra, will be discussed with employee representatives in accordance with local legislation and established practices in both countries. Valmet confirmed its commitment to working closely with employees and their representatives throughout the process, ensuring appropriate support during the transition.
At the same time, the company remains focused on maintaining uninterrupted deliveries and ensuring the smooth execution of ongoing customer projects.
