9 Mar. 2025: Ahlstrom has initiated significant manufacturing changes in the United States and the United Kingdom as part of its long-term strategic roadmap.
In Wisconsin, the company will right-size its Mosinee site. The plan includes closing the pulp mill and two paper machines (M2 and M3) during 2026. At the same time, Ahlstrom will upgrade the two remaining machines with advanced technologies and automation to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
The move is intended to streamline operations and unlock additional value from the site.
In the UK, Ahlstrom has launched a formal consultation process regarding the potential closure of its Radcliffe facility. A final decision will follow the outcome of consultations with employees and stakeholders.
These actions accompany broader portfolio adjustments completed in 2025, including the acquisition of Stevens Point operations in Food & Smart Packaging and EBF in Lab & Life Sciences, as well as the divestment of the non-core Abrasives business.
President and CEO Helen Mets said the company continues to refine its strategy to strengthen core divisions — Filtration & Life Sciences, Food & Consumer Packaging, and Protective Materials — while adapting its manufacturing footprint to market conditions.
The restructuring steps underline Ahlstrom’s focus on operational efficiency, technology upgrades and long-term competitiveness in specialty materials.
Ahlstrom is a global leader in fiber-based specialty materials. The company’s purpose is to Purify and Protect, with Every Fiber, for a Sustainable World.
