22 Dec. 2025: The Alliance for Fibre-Based Packaging is insisting the proposed Year 2 EPR waste disposal fees for fibre-based packaging are disproportionately high.
All associations representing different materials have their own criticisms of the EPR fees and their implementation.
The alliance said it is ‘essential’ that the EPR fee framework accurately reflects the real-world environmental performance and end-of-life outcomes of different materials.
A statement read: “If fees do not align with these impacts, the result will be reduced investment in recyclable, low carbon packaging solutions and slowing progress towards shared environmental objectives. The Alliance is engaging closely with Government and delivery partners to better understand the data, assumptions and calculations underpinning the illustrative fees, as well as sharing the evidence and data we have on performance of fibre-based packaging. We look forward to continued dialogue to ensure the scheme is evidence-based, proportionate and delivers genuine environmental benefits.”
