10 Nov. 2025: Frogmore Paper Mill, the world’s first mechanised paper mill, has reopened its doors to the public for the first time since the devastating fire in January 2022. The first Hard Hat Tour group visited the mill on 15th October 2025.

The mill can now be visited on guided Hard Hat Tours, offered twice weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Numbers are limited, so tickets should be booked in advance at www.frogmorepapermill.org.uk

The tours give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at Frogmore Paper Mill as it continues to recover and evolve. Visitors don hard hats and explore areas not normally accessible, seeing the historic machinery, and demonstrations of papermaking by hand and by machine. Tour guides explain the fascinating history of how papermaking in Apsley and the Gade Valley changed the world.

Hard Hat Tours mark the next step in the reopening of Frogmore Paper Mill as it continues to undergo redevelopment following the 2022 fire. The Apsley Paper Trail remains a proud and active charity dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of paper, print, and communication.
