4 Sept. 2025: Following a strategic review of its operations in Belišće, Croatia, DS Smith plans to discontinue recycled containerboard production and invest €15m to expand and modernise its packaging operations at the site.
DS Smith, an International Paper company, plans operational changes at the company's production site in Belišće and has entered negotiations with employee representatives on the proposed closure of paper production at the site. "Discussions regarding the proposed closure, timeline and employee support measures are currently underway and subject to consultation with employee representatives over the legal period," DS Smith announced. Belišće mill is the company's only paper site in Croatia. The mill houses two machines producing recycled corrugated case material.
At the same time, DS Smith has approved a €15m investment to expand and modernise its packaging activities at the Belišće site. The investment is meant to strengthen the company's relationship with existing customers and attract new potential customers in the region, according to DS Smith.
