9 July 2025: Valmet introduces the Pulp Filtrate Extractor, offering enhanced precision in pH measurement. It delivers the highest availability and the most accurate process temperature and measurement conditions available, ensuring precise pH and residual chemical accuracy. The Pulp Filtrate Extractor is a natural upgrade from previous generations, including Valmet Piston and Valmet Screen Extractor. The new extractor enables pulp makers to achieve precise measurements in pulp filtrate by improving measurement conditions and increasing uptime. It offers up to 70 percent greater flow than competing solutions, ensuring higher filtrate temperatures and better conditions for exact pH measurements.
“Our long experience with pulp filtrate sampling has led to a breakthrough in sampling technology. Valmet Pulp Filtrate Extractor provides a solid basis for advanced process controls in the fiberline,” says Matti Selkälä, Business Manager, Pulp and Energy Analyzers, Automation Solutions, Valmet.
In addition, due to its self-cleaning benefits, maintenance requirements are significantly reduced, while wearing parts are purposely designed to be easily replaced without special tools.
Technical information about Valmet Pulp Filtrate Extractor
Valmet Pulp Filtrate Extractor provides a continuous fiber-free filtrate sample for various measurements such as pH, residual chemicals, and conductivity, and it fits seamlessly to existing locations. Weighing 30 to 50 percent less than competing solutions, the Pulp Filtrate Extractor is safer to install and to maintain. Self-cleaning is made possible using the existing process filtrate, eliminating the need for external compressed air or water.
Pulp industry in Europe
Europe is one of the largest producers of pulp globally, with major producers located in countries such as Sweden, Finland, Germany, and France. The pulp industry in Europe is a vital sector within the broader paper and wood products industry. The industry primarily focuses on producing wood pulp used in paper manufacturing, with sustainable forestry practices increasingly becoming a focal point.
The industry is driven by both mechanical and chemical pulping methods, producing a variety of grades to serve different sectors like printing, packaging, and hygiene products. It is also adapting to changing environmental regulations, focusing on reducing emissions, increasing energy efficiency, and recycling materials.
Sustainability and circular economy principles are integral to the European pulp industry, with efforts to develop bio-based products and invest in cleaner technologies. The industry faces growing demand for eco-friendly products, pushing European pulp producers to innovate and lead in sustainable practices.
