20 June 2025: Saica Group has announced that its Hartlepool facility has become the first site in the UK to be awarded the Saica Zero to Landfill Certificate, reflecting the company’s commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
It is also the first time this recognition has been granted to any Saica Pack plant across the entire group.
Developed by Saica Natur, the group’s environmental services division, the certification is given to sites that divert at least 95% of waste from landfill through reuse, recycling, or energy recovery—under strict regulatory compliance. The standard is independently verified by TÜV SÜD.
At Hartlepool, nearly 4,000 tonnes of waste were assessed over a six-month audit. The facility achieved a 97% diversion rate, with no major non-conformities. The audit also reviewed waste segregation practices, legal compliance, and infrastructure, supported by Saica Natur.
Saica says the recognition reflects industry best practices, particularly in the context of evolving waste regulations in the UK. The certificate includes annual performance reviews and a full revalidation every three years, ensuring long-term improvement and accountability.
As the UK advances toward its net-zero goals, Saica’s achievement in Hartlepool highlights how environmental responsibility and operational performance can go hand in hand.
The Saica Group offers sustainable paper solutions for the manufacturing of corrugated cardboard and packaging, promoting circularity in waste management.
