2 May 2023: A World-renowned paper company is paying a unique royal tribute with a new cutting-edge piece of machinery.

James Cropper, a global market leader in advanced materials, luxury packaging, and paper products, received delivery of a new energy-efficient boiler this weekend to its Burneside mill via police escort.

Replacing two boilers adorned with smiling faces which have welcomed visitors for 50 years, the 18-tonne Byworth Yorkshireman has been lovingly customised to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee and will stand as a tribute to the late monarch for years to come.

Steve Adams, CEO at James Cropper, said: "The original boilers, located in the power house near the entrance to the mill, have welcomed many to the site including our late Queen and The Princess Royal in 2013 and His Majesty the King, for a Waste to Wealth summit, in 2018.

"It is fitting that we have installed the new boiler, which commemorates the Queen, as we get ready to celebrate the Coronation of our new King."

Work has been underway for nearly 12 months at the site in preparation for the state-of-the-art boiler.

The enabling works have included strengthening foundations and relocation services to allow for safe demolition and then rebuilding of the boiler house floor.

The new boiler was delivered, under police escort, on a low loader up the A66 in the early hours of Saturday morning (April 29) and lifted into its new home at James Cropper.

Taking the place of the two old boilers, the Yorkshireman is extremely efficient and will deliver a reduction in environmental emissions as well as energy usage.

It is fitted with an 'economiser' which hoovers up every last drop of heat from the flue gasses.

The new boiler is also much better equipped to cope with a very wide range of energy demands and significantly improve control of energy for production across the site, and still keep its high efficiency.
